Whole moong, also called green gram or mung beans, are small green pulses used throughout South Asian home cooking. This case is 12 x 500g, meaning twelve separate 500g packs. The 500g size suits smaller kitchens and households, or anyone who prefers to open a fresh, more manageable pack rather than a full kilo. The beans are mild and slightly sweet, cooking to a soft, comforting finish.
Cooking and uses: rinse, then soak for about 4 to 6 hours to shorten cooking, though whole moong will also cook from dry with a little more time. Boil for roughly 30 to 45 minutes until tender, or pressure cook for less. For sprouts, soak overnight, drain and keep the beans damp in a warm place for a day or two. Use in dal, khichdi, soups and fresh sprout salads.
keep dry beans in a cool, dry cupboard in a sealed pack. Refrigerate soaked or sprouted beans and use within a couple of days.
