Black eye beans, also called black eyed beans or lobia, are small cream coloured pulses with a distinctive dark spot and a soft, creamy bite. This is the East End 1kg bag of dried beans, a versatile store cupboard staple. East End Foods has supplied dried pulses from Birmingham since 1972.
Cooking and Uses: Rinse and soak, then simmer until tender for a lobia curry, or add to stews, soups and rice dishes. Cooked and cooled, the beans also work in salads and dips. Unlike some pulses they cook relatively quickly.
Keep the dry beans in a cool, dry cupboard in an airtight container. Once cooked, cover, chill and use within a couple of days.
