East End Foods star aniseeds come in a 100 g single retail pack, a sensible size for the home spice shelf. Each pod is a woody, eight pointed star with a sweet, liquorice like aroma. Because the flavour is so concentrated, a small pack lasts a long time while still giving your cooking real depth.
Cooking and Uses: Add a whole pod to the hot oil when starting a biryani or rice dish, simmer one in stocks and broths for a gentle sweetness, or include it in slow cooked curries and stews. It also works in mulled drinks and poaching syrups. Take the whole pods out before serving, or grind a piece into a spice mix.
Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Reseal the pack or use an airtight jar to hold the fragrance.
