Dried red kidney beans, known as rajma, in a 500g retail pack. A hearty base for curries, chilli and stews. Remember dried kidney beans must be soaked and boiled thoroughly before eating.

Description

Heera Red Kidney Beans 500g, a hearty dried bean for rajma and chilli.

Red kidney beans, popular in South Asian cooking as rajma, are large, deep red beans with a soft, creamy centre once cooked. This 500g bag is a single retail pack, well suited to a family curry or a big pot of chilli. As with all dried kidney beans, they need soaking and thorough cooking before eating.

Key Features

  • Dried red kidney beans, the classic rajma bean
  • Soft, creamy texture once fully cooked
  • Natural source of plant protein and fibre (verify figures on pack)
  • 500g single retail pack for curries, chilli and stews
  • Great value dried beans for batch cooking and freezing

Cooking and Uses: Soak the beans in plenty of cold water for eight hours or overnight, then drain and rinse. Cover with fresh water, bring to a vigorous boil and boil hard for at least ten minutes, then simmer until fully soft. Thorough cooking is important, as dried kidney beans must be well cooked before eating. Use them in rajma, chilli, curries and salads.

Storage

Store the dry beans in a cool, dry place. Once opened, keep them in an airtight container and use within a reasonable time.

A: Dried kidney beans should be soaked and then boiled hard before eating, so always cook them fully as advised on the pack. Q: Do I have to soak them? A: Yes, soaking for eight hours or overnight softens them and helps them cook evenly. Q: What can I make? A: Rajma, chilli, bean curries, stews and cooled bean salads all work well. Q: Who makes it? A: Heera is a UK South Asian food brand owned by P&B Foods.

About the brand: Heera is a long established UK South Asian food brand owned by P&B Foods, which began in Bradford around 1970. The range is a familiar sight in British kitchens and grocery shops, known for everyday staples such as pulses, flours, spices and store cupboard basics.
