TRS Urid Dal Chilka is supplied as a 10x1kg case, giving kitchens ten separate 1kg bags of split black gram. Chilka means the dark skin is left on the split pulse, which lends body and a slightly firmer bite. Urid, also written urad, is a cornerstone ingredient in South Asian cooking.
Rinse well and soak before cooking. Simmer into dals such as dal makhani, or grind soaked urid into a batter for idli, dosa and vada.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep opened bags sealed or in an airtight container.
